A lunchtime walk around Constitution Gardens and the Tidal Basin
produced these highlights:
Constitution Gardens:
The male Northern Shoveler is still in the pond. All the coots seem to
have left.
A female Purple Finch (I see these only rarely on the Mall)
Several groups of Yellow-rumped Warblers
A couple of Chipping Sparrows.
A large flock of American Goldfinches
DC Veteran's Memorial
Singing Eastern Towhees
A few Brown Thrashers
Several Yellow-rumped Warblers
A Ruby-crowned Kinglet
A Blue-headed Vireo
A large flock of Cedar Waxwings
Next to the Tidal Basin
A singing male Orchard Oriole
In the Tidal Basin
A Common Loon in winter plumage.
Note: It looks like the Juncos are gone. As recently as last Friday
there were large flocks on the Mall. I saw none today.
