After Bob Hartman and I watched the Louisiana Waterthrush for awhile, I
continued up the hill towards the campground. There was a Prairie Warbler
singing along the way. As I took the Logger's Trail, I could hear a Scarlet
Tanager first singing and then calling "chick-burr." It took me several minutes
but I finally spotted this beautiful male tanager. Later, thinking I had caught
sight of one of the many Ovenbirds calling, I realized it was a Wood Thrush
and later saw and heard two of them calling an alarm call. As I neared the end
of the trail, I was rewarded with a close-up view of that darn Ovenbird. He
must have been tired because he was slowly blinking. Have you ever seen a
blinking eyering? Looks like a deflated rubber band.

It was truly a wonderful morning.
