Hi all --

The morning started out nice and sunny (but cold) at Rock Creek Park DC today, but unfortunately it soon turned breezy and overcast and the bird activity slowed abruptly. Most of the birds were seen at the Equitation Field down the hill from picnic areas 17/18 or near the Nature Center. Still, some good birds were seen and we had a "5-slam" of vireos!

Birds of Interest:

Warblers:
Black-and-White - 1
Blue-winged - 1 (plus several heard by other birders)
Cape May - 1 seen by Greg Gough
Louisiana Waterthrush - 1 reported by Wallace Kornack
Ovenbird - 3
Palm - 1 (yellow)
Wormeating - 1
Yellow-rumped - ~35
Yellowthroat - 1

Other migrants:
Common Loon - 4, flyover
Broadwinged Hawk -2
Great Crested Flycatcher - 1
Red-eyed Vireo - 10
White-eyed Vireo - 1
Warbling Vireo - 1
Blue-headed Vireo -1
Yellow-throated Vireo - 2, nest-building
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1
Scarlet Tanager - 2-3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 4
Veery - 1
Wood Thrush - 4
Catbird - 3
Cedar Waxwing - 8-10
White-throated Sparrow - 6
Chipping Sparrow - 4
Purple Finch - 1, reported by Greg Gough
Baltimore Oriole - 1

Still many many Goldfinches in the Maintenance Yard (making it hard to ear or pick out other species) and a few Blue Jays passing over.
