Dear All
Just to add a few more birds from the Mall this morning - as if the other posts
weren't enough.
Paul Pisano and I, along with Max, saw the Clay-colored Sparrow singing and
showing well in the Locust Trees around the plaza area (as described by
Max). It stopped singing and disappeared at 7.30am. I heard it once about
30 mins later around the edge of the pools but couldn't reloacate it. It was
doing the same thing as the Chippes but was not actually accompanying
them. There was a single Savannah Sparrow around too.
We also saw male and female Cape May and a stonking Blackburnian in the
same trees. At one point I had males of Cape May and Blackburnian and the
CC Sparrow in one binoc view at once!
I counted 9 Scarlet Tanagers five of which were overflying, and there was a
single female Summer Tanager overflying too. Also both orioles overhead and
at least four Ovenbirds under our feet.
The pools held the Horned Grebe and Gadwall of previous days plus Killdeer and
Spotted Sandpiper.
Frank Hawkins turned up just in time to miss the sparrow but stayed a bit
longer after I left and saw ten spp of warbler in the trees along the reflecting
pool, including Yellow and Blackburnian.
Tremendous and many thanks to Marc for finding the sparrow.
Looks good for the weekend.
