I went first to Rock Creek Park in DC this morning, joining many other birders, and then went on and did some stretches along the C&O Canal. It was a decent morning but fewer migrants than I thought there might be given the change in weather.
In total I got 18 species of warbler for the half-day, including those Derek reported earlier for Rock Creek (but not Cerulean or Worm-eating, and Nashville was heard-only). The spots along the canal yielded mostly breeding warblers but I did come across a Blue-winged at Riley's Lock and a singing Northern Waterthrush on the middle path off of Hunting Quarter Rd at Hughes Hollow.
Vireos were reasonably well represented with great views of Yellow-throated in the parking lot at Hughes. I also had my FOY Acadian Flycatcher at Hughes Hollow. No thrushes other than Wood Thrush however.
It might've been a better day for watching for raptors. When it warmed up late morning a small flight of Broad-winged, Sharp-shinned and 2 Osprey went over the impoundments at Hughes.
White-crowned Sparrow are still present along Hughes Rd.
I stopped briefly at the Cabin John raven nest and saw one adult come in and feed the chicks.
Good birding
