The building where I work right now has a large atrium that has a very large 4-storey glass wall and a two large stands of bamboo inside. It evidently causes a lot of very sad confusion among the avian denizens of DC - today as I walked out for a quick smoke and starbucks run a little brown bird came zooming up and went THWACK! into the glass wall of the atrium.

Naturally I went to check it out and it was an Ovenbird! Thankfully he was only a little stunned, he tried again, whacked into the wall again became a little more stunned so I let him rest up a bit while I smoked my cig 50 feet from building, when I came back he was 'awake' so I stood on one side so my reflection was right next to him and tried to kind of chivy him away from the glass, which worked, he took off away from the atrium.

Better outcome than the little RCK last week, poor thing. I was chatting with one of the guards about it and she said it happens all summer, which is depressing.

Why would an Ovenbird be in downtown DC? I am over by the Capital where there are a lot of parks and such but it certainly isn't woodsy...
