About 8:00 this evening my husband and I were outside with our
heads stuck under the hood of my car (trying to change a light
bulb) when I heard a once-familiar and much-loved sound: a
nighthawk! I straightened up immediately and searched for it
and spotted a single individual, flying over the tree line in the
distance - then out of sight.
Just think of all the birds with "common" in their names that
aren't anymore...
