About ten years ago I drove into work at the College Park campus of U. of MD and as soon as I got out of my car (which was parked near the main mall with its rows of old willow oaks) I heard, loud and clear, the song of a Golden-winged Warbler. (Plus a lot of other bird songs). Fortunately I had bins with me and after scanning the trees, soon found the singer -- a lovely male Brewster's Warbler, one of the form that resembles a Golden-winged (white base color) but no throat patch and a slight yellow wash on breast. I was a bit disappointed since I had not seen a Golden-winged all season.

All in all, I had 19 species of warblers that day plus BB Cuckoo, all in trees on the mall -- a real fall-out since in 12 years working at U.MD it was the only time it happened -- but no Golden-winged. During the hour or so I was birding the Brewster's sang repeatedly and always the G-W song.

But I agree with Bob Ringler, try to see the bird as you might also be surprised!
