Today my wife Colleen and I had a great day afield in Garrett Co. We hopped
around a few select places starting at Finzel Swamp at 7:00AM. From there we
moved on to Cranesville Swamp, Snaggy Mtn. area, Mt. Nebo parking area, Deep
Creek Discovery Center, and then passed by New Germany State Park, returning
to Cumberland by 3:30PM. Without trying super hard, and missing MANY easy
species for the county, we tallied 80 species, including 17 warbler species.
Highlights for us included flyover CANADA WARBLER and several ALDER
FLYCATCHERS at Finzel Swamp, 4 NASHVILLE WARBLERS and 1 GOLDEN-WINGED
WARBLER at Cranesville Swamp, numerous PURPLE FINCHES and several LEAST
FLYCATCHERS, plus up-close looks at 4 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS at the
Discovery Center, and great looks at BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER at New Germany.
Despite windy conditions, it was a BEAUTIFUL day with great company and good
birds!
