This morning Lisa and I met up with Sandy Farkas and a
friend for another installment of In Search Of The
Clay-colored Sparrow. We were at the very spot where
Sandy and Dave Sperling had watched it sing yesterday.
No dice today. We did see both orioles, the back
part of a (Northern) waterthrush, a Spotted Sandpiper,
and two Green Herons being harassed by assorted black
birds. After Sandy and friend left, Lisa and I
located two singing male Wilson's Warblers and a male
Blackpoll Warblers.

We then drove around Hains Point in search of
dark-headed gulls. None were to be seen, but we did
see a Lesser Yellowlegs, a Solitary Sandpiper, and a
Least Sandpiper in the same rain pool. Lisa had a
view of the rear end of a singing Nothern Waterthrush.
Warbling Vireos were sprinkled around the park. On
our way out of the park, I spied the RUDDY TURNSTONE
sitting on top of the channel-side railing on Ohio
Drive, opposite the tennis court (and so near the
junction with Buckeye Drive). After a bit, the
turnstone joined two starlings foraging in the wet
grass. After another bit it flew back to the railing
before taking off in the direction of the channel.
