Sean,

I'm sitting in the Delaware Shorebird Project research house on Slaughter Beach this very moment. I saw Jeff's response and thought I'd follow up on his comments. The Red Knot with the JK5 flag was originally banded at Cooks Beach, NJ on May 15, 2007, it was seen many times during that May but not seen by us this year. The Red Knot with the orange ELN flag was originally banded in Argentina so we don't have the background data available here, it was sighted on May 26 last year at Mispillion Harbor though. I'll fill out a resighting (finding previously banded birds) form and make your sighting official for the year.

I come over each year (this is my fourth I think) to help with the project and always have a splendid time seeing birds and participating in such an important and useful project. And now you have too! I'll post a weekend-long list when I get home, perhaps we can entice our fellow birders to come for a visit (or volunteer) next year.

Good birding,

Chris Ordiway @ Hard Bargain Farm... I mean Slaughter Beach!

Hi all. Yesterday Maurice Barnhill and I took a brief excursion down to the Delaware Bay. Despite the cloudy weather, it was highly entertaining watching all the Pipers doing what they have been doing for Thousands upon thousands years.

I took my 15 year old son down today. Great Light for me for photography and he really wanted to see the spectacle of spring time on the Delaware Bay and being this is the only time I would have for a while to get down there, we didn't want to miss it.

I was at the North end of Slaughter Beach for about an hour, my son hung in there for about 30 minutes before he got board and went back to the truck.

I did manage to find 2 Knots with Leg bands. May be there are recent Delaware bandings, Maybe not. If anyone knows, pass the info on please.

Follow the links below, the top on is the leg bands and the bottom is just some photographs I took today.
