If you are able to identify all birds in your area by sound and sight
and are willing to contribute to our nation's flagship non-game
wildlife surveillance program, please read further - we need your help!

Four of Maryland's North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS)
routes have recently become available:

46013 Warfieldsbrg (south-central Carroll County)
46028 La Plata (Charles County)
46038 Harmony (Caroline County)
46022 Beltsville (Prince Georges County)
(To see the location of these routes, please visit
<http://www.pwrc.usgs.gov/bbs/results/routemaps/maps/Maryland2.gif>)

If you are not familiar with the BBS, the survey is a long-term,
large-scale, international avian monitoring program initiated
in 1966 (by our very own Chan Robbins) to track the status and
trends of North American bird populations.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?:
Once each year during the height of the avian breeding season
(late May to early July in our area) participants drive their survey
route and count all birds heard or seen within a 1/4 mile radius and
within exactly 3 minutes per stop. Survey routes are ~24 1/2 miles
long with 50 stops situated 1/2 mile apart. Surveys start one-half hour
before local sunrise and take about 5 hours to complete.

If you are willing to help please don't hesitate to call to learn more.
Good fortune and good birding!

Cheers,

Dave
