Folks

With the cut off of MDOsprey from Comcast, and a couple messages bounced back from the SMAS (Southern Maryland Audubon Society) listserve, I am reposting these birds found in Charles Co. over the long weekend.

Olive-sided Flycatcher: Found and photographed on Barry's Hill Road near Bryan's Road on May 22 at a location called Mill Swamp, which is about 1/2 mile from Marshall Hall Rd. Several Kentucky Warblers were on territory along this road the connect Charles and P.G. County.

Lincoln's Sparrow: Found and photographed at the Chicamuxen Wildlife Management Area on May 23. This under birded state property is along Rt. 224, just north of the intersection with Rt. 224 and RT. 344, and north of Reeder Run. It is well worth a couple hours of exploring, especially you county listers.

Alder Flycatcher: Heard by Gwen at Bumpy Oak Road at the old railroad crossing on May 23. This is probably the fourth county record of this species. The tracks have been removed and this is to become a new biking/hiking trail through this very interested and diverse habitat along part of the Mattawoman watershed. Hopefully some great reports will come in the future.

Yardbirds:

I also photographed a Common Nighthawk from my deck in Waldorf on the evening of May 25. The very active and close Whip-poor-will continues to entertain Gwen and myself. It was singing from the front yard over the weekend, and behind the neighbors house today around 5 AM to 5:30 AM. It seemed non-stop today. Great-horned Owl also sang early today.
