I've just returned from Susquehanna State Park and heard and had good views
of an ALDER FLYCATCHER! The bird was actively calling from an open area
not far from the trailhead from the picnic area. To access the area, you can
take the trail into the woods. Cross the small footbridge. You will then come
to a point that forks 3 ways. (There is a sign that says "Forest Buffer
Demonstration Area" Take the middle fork. Not far from this point, the woods
start to open up to a low shrubby area. The bird was calling and actively
flying in the shrubs in the open field area to the right. You can also access
this trail from a different route. Coming from the Rock Run area, heading
towards the Picnic Area parking lot, there is a brown barricade on the left
hand side (before you come to the Picnic Area) Walk this unmarked trail,
behind the barricade, which is open at first, but quickly becomes wooded.
When it becomes open again, you will see the low shrubby area to your left
this time. Hope this helps. Warblers included a CANADA and MAGNOLIA and
BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were just about everywhere! CEDAR WAXWINGS
seemed to be everywhere as well and I had good looks at a VEERY and a
SWAINSON's THRUSH.
