Folks

I have volunteered to coordinate the IBA (Important Bird Area) bird blitz in Charles Co. for this breeding season. If you wish to volunteer, please contact me off net. My direct email address is:

The focus of my coverage this year will be on the Mattawoman and the Zekiah watershed systems, and the Nanjemoy area. What I need will be skilled bodies that will be willing to search these areas for the target species. You will need to bird by sound mostly as some of the target species, like Kentucky Warbler, are difficult to see. You should at least know the song. If you know the call notes that is a plus. The study will be during the safe dates for the target species. In my study area this will be to the end of June, so we need to get started very quickly.

This is exciting birding since you will be directly contributing to the understanding and perhaps the protection of the animals you are surveying. Most of the information you will need to help is at the following website: www.audubonmddc.org/SciCon_IBAs.html.

If you can help please contact me at the above email address. If you have questions that I can help, Dave Curson will be available.

Thanks in advance.
