The weather was perfect for a morning of birding within woodlands along the
Anacostia river in the southeast section of the District of Columbia.
Scarlet Tanagers, Wood Thrushes, Acadian Flycatchers, Eastern Wood-Peewees,
Great Crested Flycatchers, and Red-eyed Vireos dominated the birdsong.

The only warbler species recorded was a singing Northern Parula in the Bald
Eagle Hill Park.

*Highlights*

- A singing Olive-sided Flycatcher and a singing White-eyed Vireo recorded
in Fort Dupont Park

- A male Red-bellied Woodpecker observed disappearing into a tree cavity in
Bald Eagle Hill Park

- Adult male Baltimore Oriole observed with what appeared like food material
in its beak and making agitated vocalizations in close proximity to a
fledgling on the edge of woodland abutting St. Elizabeth's
Hospital, southeast DC
