I live in Cabin John (Montgomery County).? For the past 4-5 years (at least) I've had 2-3 hummingbird feeders out all summer and I've had at least one breeding pair of hummers every year.? They always showed up in late April after a few sporadic migrant h-birds moved through starting in mid-April.? This year I put my feeders out in mid-April and saw NO hummingbirds.? The feeders remained untouched although I faithfully kept them cleaned and refilled.

Finally, on June 8th the hummingbirds returned!? There is at least one pair and they have been chugging down the food.? I can barely keep the feeders filled.? So they are here but they arrived about 6-7 weeks late.? Very strange but I'm glad to see them!

Hi Dan, Bob, and all,
Here in our fairly new place in Woodbine I have found that we have many
MORE hummingbirds than last summer, when we first moved here and I had just
hung
my feeders out. I have only 2 feeders up, both Perky-Pet four fountains (I
think that's their name) hanging feeders. I have one placed behind a large
shrub so the wind won't blow it empty and we can see it out the side sliding
door
near the side porch, and the other is right out the back off the deck, so we
can monitor them pretty easily. I have especially noticed many more male
hummers than last year, probably because a single bird cannot "hog" both
feeders
as they are not really in view of each other. We are getting visits
throughout the day at both feeders by both male and female hummers. I am
filling them
about 2-3 times a week (though filling is not accurate; I half-fill).

On the other hand, I have noticed far fewer hummingbirds in the field this
year.
