Bruce Peterjohn came to my house this morning to
band some Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. We had an
extremely successful day. We banded from about
8:15 to 12:30. Birds getting jewelry for the first
time were:
18 AHY males
  9 AHY females
for a total of 27 new birds.

In addition, we had 8 recaptures of birds that
were banded at my house last summer.
4 males that were banded as AHY last July.
2 females that were banded as AHY last July.
2 males that were banded as HY last August.

For non-banders:
HY = Hatch Year meaning the birds were born in the
year they were banded.
AHY = After Hatch Year meaning the birds were
adults in the year they were banded but the exact
age could not be determined since the adults look
the same each year.

The eagle looked down on the river below
And he wrapped his wings round him and he fell
like a stone
And the big salmon fought but the talons held true
And he shuddered as the world turned from silver
to blue
