For as many times as I've visited Kenilworth Park this year, including
the area that Fred refers to, I have yet to find a Horned Lark. Even in
early spring, when I've had them there before, I couldn't find one. So
the chance of them breeding at KP this year is highly unlikely, in my
opinion.

And I hope to find one in the fall because that would be a big year
miss.

On an unrelated note, I saw a possible Black Tern fly by my window at
work just as the front was coming through at around 11:00 am. I caught
a brief glimpse of the bird, and while Black Tern was my first
impression, I didn't see it well enough to confirm. Just want to
mention it, as the fall migrants should be coming through soon (though
usually it was mid-August that they would show up in the good (read
hydrilla) years). My office is on M St., SE, a block from the Anacostia
River. A couple of Ring-billed Gulls were also blown off by the front.

Good birding,

Fred et al., in 2006 during Atlas safe dates (I don't have the date
handy but it was either in early June or late/mid May) an adult Horned
Lark flew over us at Kenilworth Park. Where it came from, I don't know.
I believe I put that down as an "O" for observed since it was not flying
over proper habitat. Nobody that I'm aware of has seen Horned Lark at
either Kenilworth Park or Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this year since May
began. Paul Pisano has been there more often than I have this year;
maybe he can shed some light on the subject.
