For anyone interested in attempting to see the Least Bitterns at the Little Patuxent Oxbow Lake Nature Preserve, Jay Sheppard and I extend this invitation. We will be at the entrance on Oxbow Place at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (Aug 2nd). Anyone who wants to come is welcomed. We will lead you to the spot from where you might catch the Least Bittern show.

In case anyone might be worried, the bitterns are about 75-100 yards out in the middle of the lake surrounded by dodder and water lillies. I don't think they can be bothered by the activity of the observers back on the bluff.

For those of you who haven't seen Trumpeter Swan #960, you'll probably see him, too.

If you have a scope, you might want to bring it to see back into the nooks and cranies of the 75 acre lake.

Dave Brenneman took some good pictures today which he'll probably get posted on his website when he has a chance (http://woodduck.smugmug.com/).
