My apologies. I meant to reply directly to Jim, but I think I did it wrong and replied to the list also. This time I meant to reply to the list. I need a cup of coffee!

I read Jim's post again, and see he described what direction it flew when it left. From the location he was at, with a scope you can see all the way to Selby's Landing if conditions are favorable. From there it is only a brief minute of flight and the bird would be at Merkle.

As for where it came from before he saw it, I am wondering if it came either from Depot Pond(s) area in Upper Marlboro, or if it was along the Patuxent or Western Branch? There are several other smaller tribs it could hide in (like Galloway Cr, Two Run Cr and Lyons Cr on the Anne Arundel side, or on the PG side there's Charles Branch and Mataponi Cr - where Fred was when he saw it flying up the river at about 7 pm from his kayak).

I talked to the Jug Bay W.S. staff who saw the bird at River Farm (posted by Sue R). It was seen so early in am (about 5:30) that the bird may have roosted there overnight.

It is odd that it has persisted here so long (ten days), since there is not a lot of ideal Ibis habitat. Glossy Ibis can be seen annually here, but usually are just passing through or resting when seen here. I have seen them here in both Spring and Fall migration.

Once again, I looked this morning, and will go out again at lunch and look around, and I'll post if I find it somewhere!

Regards-
