I have seen few birds on the canal at Great Falls lately UNTIL YESTERDAY AND
TODAY. Yesterday, in the stiff wind, I had many Chimney swifts, a few
Rough-wing Swallows, 20- 50 vultures and five (four at one time) immature
bald eagles ( two diving on each other over the parking lot). Today there
were similar birds, no eagles, but a great extended view of a juvenile,
light-morph Broadwing hawk. It was flying all alone. And back near the
parking lot, in the bright sunshine, a brilliant Scarlet Tanager flew into a
tree across the canal and then off into the woods. I have never seen one
there this late in the year before. Two great days on the Canal.
