I didn't see a post about the Black-headed Gull so I thought I'd update. Jane Kostenko and I arrived at Trueman's Landing at noon on Sunday, 8/17. With thoughts of distant views through heat shimmer, we began scanning the nearby birds and were surprised to find the BHGU sitting about 50 feet away on a tall piling behind the house on the right as you approach the water. George Jett and Gwen Brewer arrived shortly afterward followed by John Hubbell. The bird never moved off of the piling allowing some close, though not ideal lighting conditions, photos for George. We scanned all of the remaining gulls for Fred's abberant gull but didn't see any likely suspects.

Hi All,

Jo Anna Leachman and I went looking for the birds this evening that were originally found by Fred Shaffer.  We were able to see them scanning from the end of Trueman Point road, the Black-headed Gull was on some distant pilings to the south, but I managed a couple of IDable shots, the hybrid is definitely very interesting and showed well on the closest pilings.

Good Birding!
