I and my friend Randy observed the Black-headed Gull in good light at about
5:15 PM today. We had searched unsuccessfully at about 2:00 PM, but when we
returned for a second try (after dipping in try for Phalarope at North
Beach), the gull was perched on the pilings immediately to the right of the
boat launch at the end of Truman's Point Road. After we observed the bird
for about 10 minutes it was displaced by another gull but settled on the
pilings to the north (left) but farther away. This third visit, tried once
on Aug. 22 as well, was the charm. New ABA species for both Randy and I.
