Dear All

Just a note to flag up that TS Hanna is finally on the move, having drifted about for the last few days and ending up significantly eastwards and thereby affecting the predicted storm tracks we discussed earlier in the week. The storm moved off on its northward journey mid-morning today and is now running due north at 11mph and gaining pace.

The 5pm model runs have just been posted (see for instance http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200808_5day.html#a_topad ) and at the moment the current model tracks are looking quite good for a wet weekend in VA-DC-MD. The next run of model predictions will be posted based on the data up to 8pm this evening when it looks like there will be much greater confidence in the modelling of the landfall and subsequent track in our direction.

It sounds like the wind shear will be holding much of the rain on the north eastern front of the storm and that it will really gain pace as it crosses our region so the rain 'drop' might be fairly intense but also fairly quick too and maybe quite early in the passage of the storm. It seems too early to say when exactly this might be as much depends now on the exact track but it does look like we should all be able to get some sort of plan for our weekends together by mid-evening tonight.

Cross your fingers !
