 Hi,

Here is a link to an online photo gallery by a guy who lives in Louisiana but who has recently (within the past week) posted many photos of Ruby-throated hummingbirds and has ID'd all of them.? There are males, females and immature birds galore.? Even if you don't "need" to look at photos to refresh yourself on how to distinguish RTHB's, it's worth looking at this site because the photos are unbelievably gorgeous - there are lots of other birds in addition to the hummers.?

Enjoy (and I hope this helps)!

Kurt?

You can tell the difference between male and female adults, and hatch year
birds. Get one of the hummingbird guides and take a look. There are two
good ones available. I think Steve Howell did one and Sheri Williamson did
one. Do a Google search. The key is the throat.?

Does anyone know, is it even possible, to distinguish immature Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds from females? A male, with incipient gorget feathers should be
easy, but... I encounter window kills frequently at work, and am keeping
track, but remain flummoxed by those white-throated mites, most of which
show some uniform stippling.?
