Hans Holbrook and myself birded western Maryland today looking for
migrants. We started in Garrett County at the Youghiogheny River flats
where Mikey Lutmerding's Baird's Sandpiper and two Sanderlings were still
present.

North Branch held three Baird's but we didn't find any phalaropes or
turnstones. Ray Kiddy showed up towards the end of out stay. Hopefully, he
had better luck with the rarities. Hans and I were commenting as we were
leaving the sewage ponds that North Branch may be the best place in the
state to see Baird's Sandpipers (of course Hart Miller was the other choice
but since it is limited access we gave the award to North Branch).

We hit all the Washington County shorebird spots and virtually came up
empty. A Least Sandpiper at Boonsboro was our best shorebird. We then
headed towards Mt. Aetna where we ended our day with an Olive-sided
Flycatcher and a migrant flock that included est. 20 Magnolias, 2 Parulas, 2
Black-and-whites, 1 Nashville, 1 Worm-eater, 1 Blue-winged, 1 female
Black-throated Blue, and 3 Chestnut-sided Warblers.
