Hello all,

Chris Murray and I decided to attempt for the WEKI this afternoon. At
4:30 PM, Ft. McHenry was loaded with birds, but the clock was ticking.
We only had 25 minutes to find the bird, and had no luck before the
gates locked up for the night.

Location: Fort McHenry NHM
Observation date: 9/16/08
Number of species: 19

Mallard 1
Double-crested Cormorant 2

On the way home, I showed Chris how much trash one can find in a
single urban park by visiting SWAP. People go there to enjoy the
fishing, the scenery, a hike, the birds, the whatever... and yet,
there is always so much garbage everywhere. It's like, hey let's
trash the place... so that next time I visit, they'll be trash
everywhere. Trash is so beautiful. Despite all of the garbage,
shockingly there were no birds, save for a Chickadee, a Cardinal two
Great Egrets and a Great Blue. After our brief visit, I wanted to
check out this bridge that I've heard about over at the DOT HG near
the BWI Rail Station.

What a great spot.

The bridge is elevated and transcends a field, some forest and a marsh
below. The warblers were few, but the place holds much potential. We
were treated to a great view of a SUMMER TANAGER feeding on some
berries. To get to this bridge, I suggest taking 170 (by the airport)
to Stoney Run Road. Make a right on to Corporate Center Drive and park
in the lot across from the new DOT HQ building. Enjoy.

Finally, Chris is currently in school at the U of MD. He has been
very busy lately and has had little time to post his bird findings to
MDOSPREY. Suffice it to say, his visits to Gov Bridge Road / Pax
River Park have been fruitful these last few mornings. He told me
that there are signs posted all around about 'dangerous animal
activity: beware!' Does anyone know about what animal might be
misbehaving and why all the new signs? I told him it was probably the
warblers.

After tonight's migration, I hope everyone enjoys the latest birds to
arrive into our area tomorrow morning.

Good Birding,
