Yesterday, I led a trip for the Southern Maryland Audubon Society to Calvert Cliffs State Park. There were more birds in the parking lot than for the first half of the walk down toward the beach. At one point, it began to rain which didn't help things at all! However, we scored all 6 woodpeckers including 10 Red-headed Woodpeckers near the boardwalk. One of them was a juvenile with an all dark head. A bonus for those who made it to the Bay were three Brown Pelicans sitting in the water out near some fishing boats. Not a common bird in Calvert County yet.

Last year, Bill Hubick led this trip. When we had arrived at the beach, his phone rang with news of Dave Czaplak's Say's Phoebe. No such luck this year ;)
