Hi Everyone,

I went for a quick run around the perimeter of Fort Smallwood this afternoon, lingering for a few extra minutes at the meadow across from the old battery. I was pleased to spot a cooperative NASHVILLE WARBLER, and I managed to wave down Ranger Matt Grey for the assist. Other surprises in the grasses of the meadow were a (continuing?) BLACKPOLL WARBLER and my first-of-fall WINTER WREN. Matt Grey spotted an Orange-crowned Warbler again here this morning, and I'm hoping to luck into it next time. The large Chippie-and-friends flock here is very promising. Here's the full list:

Canada Goose--3
Double-crested Cormorant--14
Great Blue Heron--4
Killdeer--2
Ring-billed Gull--2
Herring Gull (American)--4
gull sp.--10
Mourning Dove--2
Red-bellied Woodpecker--3
Downy Woodpecker--1
Northern Flicker (Yellow-shafted)--1
Eastern Phoebe--1
Blue Jay--3
Carolina Chickadee--1
White-breasted Nuthatch--1
Carolina Wren--1
WINTER WREN--1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet--1
Eastern Bluebird--8
American Robin--11
Northern Mockingbird--3
European Starling--35
NASHVILLE WARBLER--1
Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle)--3
Palm Warbler (Western)--1
Palm Warbler (Yellow)--2
Blackpoll Warbler--1
Chipping Sparrow--15
White-throated Sparrow--2
Common Grackle--10
House Finch--7
American Goldfinch--6

At dusk at our house a couple blocks away, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER joined the Ruby-crowned Kinglets that love our two large hollies.

Good birding!

Bill
