Greetings,
I took my son to the playground at the North East Town Park located at the end of Cherry Street in North East, Cecil County. While there I was treated to a nice surprise; a rather large group of gulls floating in the abnormally high tide and unseasonably warm southerly winds. Break down below is approximate (I had a two year-old in tow)...
Laughing Gull 1400
Ring-billed Gull 75
Great Black-backed Gull 15
Herring Gull 10
Forster's Tern 6
Caspian Tern 1
Double crested Cormorant 10
Belted Kingfisher 2
With a gull flock 'hovering' around 1500 birds, I suspected to find a bonnie but it was not to be. Also, I would have liked to have been able to sort through the Laughers for a Franklins but with my son, it was impossible.
Side note: I have had a Great Egret and ten Wood Ducks at my house for the last four days (Hances Point, North East River, Cecil County).
Good Birding,
Chris Starling
