I was looking for a couple of species that were reported a while ago, and figured they would not still be here but I had the afternoon off. I looked for a "white" vulture that was reported at the Brown Station landfill in PG County, but did not find it. The landfill is closed to the public, but I had permission to look for the bird. It was described as all white except for its head. Sounds pretty interesting! I also heard about a gull with a patagial wing tag but could not find it. Since the species and color of tag are unknown it is not reportable.

I saw a few other species of interest there. A lone meadowlark was on one of the grassy mounds, and at a small mudflat at a pond where I found some shorebirds on the fall count (Sep 21), I found a few shorebirds again. There were 17 Killdeer, 3 Lsr Yellowlegs, 1 Gr Yellowlegs, 2 Pect Sands, and 1 Least Sandpiper.

I also looked for a Connecticut Warbler that was reported around Lothian (over a week ago) and was unable to find it (no surprise). I saw my first Brown Creeper of the season there as a nice consolation.

At home this afternoon I found a few birds of interest. At Jug Bay I saw 2 Forster's Terns feeding and 5 Am Widgeon (uncommon here) with the regular variety of waterfowl, whose numbers are mounting every day now. I saw a late Red-eyed Vireo, and MANY Yellow-rumped Warblers but no other warbler species. I got tired of looking for a different species after about the 50th MYWA! Also, the Great Egret roost on the AA side of Jug Bay continues, it has been used since late August! There are about 25 birds that come in to rosst there every evening. It will be curious to see if they leave from the cold spell this weekend.

I look forward to looking around here again today as soon as I get the kids taken care of. I hope to find a siskin, pipit, hummer, or whatever the day brings!

Cheers-
