While we were eating dinner, I saw a LBJ fly over to our water garden and
start investigating the crevices in the rocks. I got the binocs and
confirmed only the second WINTER WREN we have had here in 23 years that this
house has existed. The last one came right onto the deck about 5 years ago.
We hope it makes a winter home here. And sings. Wouldn't it be nice to wake
up on a Christmas morning and hear that!

This AM we hit Piney Run Park in south Carroll. The waterfowl were way over
on the other end of the lake, but with our scope we got COOTS, WIDGEON and
RUDDIES.
Best migrator of the day was a nice look at some BLUEHEADED VIREOs
behind the Nature Center. The surprising part of it was that we were
attracted to their presence because they sang.
Also had a very busy flock of 3 warbler species - MYRTLE, YELLOW-RUMPED
and BUTTER-BUTTS. All feeding together. Imagine that.

Ok, so I didn't say they were DIFFERENT warbler species. But since they were
the only warblers we had all day I had to stretch it out.

Rest of the walk were the usual critters- including Juncos & White-throats
who by now are no longer new arrivals. They been around at least a week.
And we also noticed that we were wearing jackets. Summer is long gone.
