Hello All,
This year, I planted a 2 acre food plot with sunflowers, millet and sorghum. It has been very active this fall. The goldfinch total maxed out at 175 last week. This week, as soon as I turned the corner around the barn I heard the zzziip of a Pine Siskin. Closer investigation found a very skittish flock of as many as 15 birds. They would circle and bounce around, land briefly and leave again. A very nice treat. Beyond that the birds were ordinary and mostly hunkered down from the wind.
An unexpected find was a newly erected deer stand overlooking one of my wetland ponds built earlier this year. It has held water all year and with it being so dry now, it is about the only game in town. And it is covered in deer tracks, making it a real attractive place to poach some deer. (In all fairness, it is probably someone who strayed a little too far from one of the neighboring properties, which are all hunted). So I contacted the MD Natural Resources Police (the stand being on the MD end of my property) and an officer came over later in the afternoon. Hopefully, we can catch this unwanted intruder.

And a belated report: On 10/4, the food plot yielded a female Dickcissel in the sorghum. This is a new and long awaited addition to my homelist. I saw another immature Dickcissel (this one on the MD side) on 10/12. Also, 3 Lincoln's Sparrows that day.

Good Birding,
