Birds of Wye Island

    Fifteen birders converged onto Wye Island for a morning of birding on
Nov 2, led by Danny Poet.  Weather conditions were excellent, and the place
was quite birdy throughout the visit.  A total of 57 species were recorded.
Top birds - a pair of Rusty Blackbirds - found within a small group of
Red-winged Blackbirds.
    Other Highlights:
 
    Common Loon  (2) on the Wye River
    Bufflehead    (2)
    Ruddy Duck
    Snow Goose - a few small flocks flying over
    Raptors: Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's
Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk and Kestrel
    Killdeer - including one flock of 30+
    Belted Kingfisher
    Red-bellied Woodpecker
    Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
    Downy Woodpecker
    Northern Flicker
    Horned Lark
    Tree Swallow
    Golden-crowned Kinglet
    Ruby-crowned Kinglet
    American Robin - in great numbers throughout the morning
    Cedar Waxwing - several large groups
    Myrtle Warbler - several
    Palm Warbler    (1)
    Sparrows: Eastern Towhee, Chipping, Field, Savannah, Song,
White-throated, White-crowned and Dark-eyed (Slate-colored) Junco
    RUSTY BLACKBIRD
    Common Grackle
    Brown-headed Cowbird
    Purple Finch
    American Goldfinch
