There appears to be some confusion about the purpose of last week's
Hart-Miller Island public meetings. At the meetings, the members of the
Hart-Miller Island North Cell Habitat Development Working Group (on which I
represent MOS) presented our proposed design for the North Cell. The design
offers wildlife habitat similar to the South Cell created wetland. There
are currently two concepts for this design, "Concept 4A" (with a sprinkler
system similar to the South Cell) and "Concept 4B" (without a sprinkler
system) . In addition to these two North Cell interior concepts, the
Maryland Department of Natural Resources has taken your ideas for amenities
that you suggested last year and proposed a design for the final island in
total.

We are soliciting comments on the two North Cell interior concepts and the
final island design amenities.

The issue of providing more recreational opportunities was brought up by
members of Tuesday night's audience. More recreational opportunities are
not in the proposed design. Many of you have already commented on the
benefit of creating wildlife habitat versus creating recreational
opportunities. There already is a consensus of this view amongst the
Working Group members. What is needed now is to decide on the final concept
and amenities.

On Monday, I will request digital copies of the Concepts fact sheet and the
proposed amenities diagram and then I will forward them to everyone that has
e-mailed me (or will be e-mailing me). Your comments are needed to decide
on the final Concept and the island amenities.

I apologize for any confusion. I thank you for your support.
