Dear All
A quick rather late post.
Paul Pisano, Greg Butcher, Frank Hawkins and I spent a couple of post-dawn hours at Kenilworth Park this morning. Highlights were 2 Vesper Sparrows, a Nashville Warbler, an American Pipit, a few Purple Finches and a Harrier. Lots of supporting cast too. Lovely morning.
This afternoon Frank and I went down to Alexandria with our families not expecting to see birds but were treated to a close fly past by an Adult winter plum Great Cormorant. It was heading south down the Potomac close inshore, but swung out into mid-channel and landed north of the Wilson Bridge. Unfortunately we lost it from sight. It was an all black bird without white hip patches but had a nice clean white narrow throat band behind the yellow chin, visible in flight.
Seems like migration is on again early this evening.
All the best
