Dear All
I was able to get up to Fort Reno in NW DC to look for raports for a couple of hours late morning/early afternoon today. It was quite busy although nothing of any surprise or real note. I was there 11.30am-1.30pm and saw:
Turkey Vulture 47
Black Vulture 38
Red-shouldered Hawk 4
Red-tailed Hawk 32
Cooper's Hawk 2
Sharpie 1
Peregrine 1
Kestrel 1
Bald Eagle 3
Plus two flocks of waxwings (28; 15) and two of Goldfinches (25+; 15+). Surprsingly few passerines on the move.
The vast majority of the raptors were clearly moving but I concluded that about six of the Red-tails were local, including one bird that was clearly accompanying other birds as they moved through. One of the Red-shouldereds was local too.
A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours although regrettably nothing aquiline nor acceptably gentle.....
Cheers
G
