While birding the North Hampton Furnace Trail I saw a Bald Eagle rob an Osprey of a fish. When I noticed the two raptors, the eagle was diving at the Osprey. The Osprey dropped the fish and the eagle rolled and went after it. During a spectacular dive it missed the first attempt to catch the fish; but got it on the second. The Osprey flew away and a second Bald Eagle went after the first.
In addition, Pine Siskin (22) and Red-breasted Nuthatch (5) were feeding in a small stand of Loblolly Pines .44 miles along the trail. For thirty seconds a nuthatch sat on a pine cone inches away from a siskin. They gave each other a casual glance then continued feeding.
The North Hampton Furnace Trail is located on West side of Loch Raven Reservoir on Dulaney Valley Road across from Chapelwood Lane. A one mile hike will take you to a fantastic view of the water.
