I had a phone call from Jan Reese this evening.  He visited Poplar
Island today and will file a full report later this week.  He called just to
pass the word that a Snowy Owl was out on the island today.  The bird was an
immature.  It was first seen perched on the dumpster as the boat with the
morning work crew approached.  It moved around a bit through the day but was
still present when Jan's boat left in late afternoon.
    Also seen were Snow Buntings and two Common Loons.  
    The birds seem to be recognizing that a change in the weather is on the
way.
