Today (Nov 11), I visited a few sites in Carroll County near Taneytown and some of the adjacent parts of Frederick County. Birds in general seemed to be sparse, especially raptors. I only saw 4 Red-tailed Hawks and 3 Kestrels with no harriers or accipiter. Highlights were an adult Red-headed Woodpecker in a woodlot along the east side of Keysville Road just north of Sixes Bridge Road, Purple Finch along Ruggles Road, a late Eastern Phoebe at Sixes Bridge, a flock of 9 Horned Larks along Shriver Road and a few White-crowned Sparrows along Shriver and Sixes Roads.
