Hi all,
I was just stepping outside my shop at about 2:30, trying to get the dog to
go back into the house, when I heard the far-off but distinct sound of TUNDRA
SWANS way above me. I located a large flock of about 150 birds, heading due
south, then other flocks, of 50, 2 flocks of 25, etc. until by about 3 PM
over 350 swans had passed, almost all calling in flight. While scanning for
swans I noticed flocks of COMMON LOONS passing overhead too, and by 3 PM I had
counted 90 loons, in flocks of 4-25 birds each, all heading south like the
swans.
I hate to go back into my shop for fear of missing something! I have still
some siskins here, and flocks of robins have besieged my Bradford Pears, busily
eating the fruit.
An Alberta clipper is coming through, and it seems the birds know
something...
