Hi Folks!

The point at Bayside is a great place to watch migration. A Big Sit is done here because of the possibility for good numbers and high diversity. Even with the 25-30? mph. steady winds out of the west on Sunday morning, a lot of birds made the jump from Assateague Island to South Point.? You may note that Anmerican Robins and American Goldfinches are moving if strong numbers. The oddities of the day included a Grasshopper Sparrow in the scrub patch at Bayside Point; my first and Mark's second ever for Assateague Island. A single female plumage Red Crossbill was part of the finch flight. My personal highlight was a Wood-Pewee that landed just above eye level about 20 feet away on a leafkless shrub, then took off almost immediately and made the jump to South Point. I had just the briefest look of the back and right side and head in profile; if I were betting, it was probably a Western Wood-Pewee but without great photos [better if it had vocalized], it goes down as wood-pewee sp.
