My girlfriend Colleen and myself drove around Dorchester County today
checking out the beautiful winter scenery and hitting a few spots for
birds. Highlights included:
Hurlock WWTP -- Bonaparte's Gulls - Flock of 30 birds mixed with many more
Ring-billed Gulls.
Rhodesdale -- Tundra Swans - 500+ feeding in the fields.
Elliot's Island marshes -- Snow Bunting - foraging in the gravel in a turn
around. Only my third county record.
Rough-legged Hawk (light phase) flew low
right over the car. One of my best looks ever.
Blackwater NWR -- Bald Eagles - their beauty always casts a spell on me!
Hooper's Island causeway -- Sanderlings - 7
Egypt Rd -- Merlin - 1
Also there is major construction being done on the east side of Egypt Rd.
New Impoundments now stretch for miles. This could be VERY VERY exciting
during Spring shorebird migration. If anyone has any information on what's
being done could you please pass it on.
