I also saw the WESTERN KINGBIRD about 2:15 this afternoon.
When I failed to find it along the gravel road leading to the Visitor
Center, I continued on down the paved road toward the historic
site. Before the sharp turn to the left, the kingbird flew over
the road (going from east to west) with a small flock of bluebirds.
The flock landed in a tree on the far side of the field (which
turned out to be in the row of trees to the south of the gravel
drive), but before I could get the scope on them, the birds flew off.
Congratulations, George, on #304!
Other noteworthy birds at the refuge included 3 DUNLIN and a COMMON
TERN on the mud by the bridge to the island, several BROWN-HEADED
NUTHATCHES and a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER on the Duck
Inn trail, and an EASTERN PHOEBE in the pines by the Visitor Center.
