Around noon today (11/28), I observed a Merlin that was perched in the top of a large sycamore tree along Frederick Road (Rte 144) opposite the entrance to Woodmont Academy, about a mile east of Route 97. The falcon was plucking feathers from a small bird it had caught. Later, during a brief visit to nearby Western Regional Park I saw a Yellow-breasted Sapsucker and heard a Fox Sparrow.
