I walked the river trail above the coffer dam both yesterday and this
afternoon. The other large nest that I reported the other day, I now feel
quite sure was built by eagles. It is not a heron nest.
We'll see if it gets used for nesting in February. Otherwise, one of the
adult Bald Eagles was on the large rock/snag in the river by the old nest
eating what appeared to be a goose. It eventually flew off to a tree on Conn
Island. The other eagle was perched the entire time in a nearby tree.
Upriver a bit was a group of 30-plus Common Mergansers, and further up a
large group of 50-plus Ring-necked ducks.
It was also very cold and snowy. Brrrrrrrrr! --
