Long-tailed Duck in P.G. County

Hi Everyone,

Tom Feild and I spent late morning and early afternoon on Sunday (12/21) looking for waterfowl in Prince George's County. We joined John Hubbell in checking Piscataway Park and enjoyed a nice study of the continuing drake EURASIAN WIGEON. It was on the west end of the dabbler flock, so viewing might require walking east on the boardwalk to look back to the west. Counts of GADWALL (1178) and REDHEAD (75) were particularly impressive. After parting ways with John, Tom and I spent most of our time between Fort Washington National Park and Wharf Road along Piscataway Creek. Our best bird was a hen LONG-TAILED DUCK, which Tom spotted as it flew into the cove, circled, and then promptly flew back out. Here are the abridged bird lists and some notes:
