Way, way back in October, I took some old speaker wire, tied a weight
to it and flung it over one of the higher branches in the Maple tree
out back. I then tied up six sock thistle feeders that dangle in a
straight line down the wire.

Since then, the most action it's gotten was 16 American Goldfinch at one meal.

Well today (at long last), we had 18 PINE SISKINS feeding (5 are still
enjoying the thistle as I type this message) this morning.

In other news, my (almost 1-year-old son) Declan and I went for a
drive this morning on the Eastern Shore. On RT 309, just West of
Denton, we had five American Kestrels and 2 Red-Tailed Hawks. There
were Canada Geese all over, and a few hundred Snow Geese flying high
above, but with all the hunting going on, the Dec-Man and I decided to
just keep on driving!

Happy New Year everyone,

Dan & Declan Haas
