Late afternoon today (1/1) my wife and I watched three Lapland Longspurs among approximately 200 Horned Larks in corn stubble fields on the north side of Oland Road just west of Route 85 in southern Frederick County. We also heard calls so there may have been more longspurs present but unobserved. A passing Sharp-shinned Hawk caused the birds to take flight but they landed again in the same field.
